Pre-Teen & Adolescent Counseling

Ages 11-17

Adolescents may present some different challenges than younger children when it comes to understanding their pain and helping them through their struggles. Their brain, though still in the works, is further developed than in younger children, so they often do have greater linguistic capacities and ability to verbalize thoughts and feelings. Because of this, therapy with teens may look more like traditional “talk therapy,” with added flexibility of using art, play, or movement.

When it comes down to it, teenagers are very knowledgeable, perceptive, and intuitive. Our job is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where they can detangle the mess of thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and experiences to realize what is true for them. We promote empowered authenticity by guiding teens towards awareness of these inner experiences as well as values, beliefs, hopes, and desires. We want your teenager to feel confident in being authentically them and learn to fully embody that person.

We help adolescents learn skills and tools to slow down, notice what’s happening in the moment, and choose actions that will have positive outcomes. The goal is to cultivate the capacity to respond to what’s happening both on the inside and outside rather than automatically react to it. We want your teen to feel empowered to make good, safe choices and respond to their world in a healthy way so they can grow, blossom, and shine.
