Parent Consultation
As you’re probably well aware of, when your child struggles, you and your whole family struggle with them. We know how much it hurts to watch your child suffer and not know how to help.
You’ve likely tried many things, but you’re not getting the results you hoped for. Even with the best intentions, you might still find that your child or teenager retaliates with increased anger and isolation. Not only does this hurt, but it can be frustrating as well!
While we are primarily your child or teenager’s therapist during this time, we are also here to offer you support by helping you understand your child’s distress and how to relate to them in a new and different way. By introducing new ways of support and techniques to communicate and hold boundaries and limits, we will teach you a skill set to gain momentum in the household while also learning what’s been under the surface this whole time.
We will help you explore ways to get your own needs met, while you help your child get back on track. Sometimes this means creating a self-care schedule of exercise or time with friends; other times it may include referring you to a couples’ therapist or some other form of support. Receiving parent consultations can be a very difficult step to take, but we have seen time and time again how it has positively affected the outcome of children’s’ progress.
The good news is that the more involved, open, and dedicated YOU are to your child’s growth and development, the better the outcome of therapy. You’re already HERE, so you’re on the right path! It can be scary, for sure, but think about it like this – you get to model for your child what you want to see from them. You get to be the change you want to see. How empowering is that?
